Let's face it, everyone makes mistakes, but what Vick did wasn't a mistake, he knowingly killed dogs, and are we not forgetting the fact that he has to be one deeply troubled human being to have killed as many dogs as he did, in the ways that he did it? I mean, whatever happened to the simple "shot in the head"? Have the criminals in this society come this far, that they are no longer just shooting mammals, but electricuting, drowning, mutilating, and above all else torturing innocent lives?
Are dogs human? No. But they have human instincts. They are beloved by humans in America, as everyone seemingly has a mut. And biggest of all, they are living beings, who most likely feel pain and torture just as you would. Vick, is for all intensive purposes, a murderer. Are hunters murderers then? Of course they are, but you hunt for food, not entertainment. I don't think deer or cattle will be fighting each other anytime soon, with the loser being electricuted.
The apology Vick recently gave is acceptable, but he needs to stop acting like a victim here. He knew damn well what he was doing, I mean Va Tech has to be at least somewhat academically challenging. But what we need to know about Vick, more than anything else, is that he is a deeply troubled soul. How one can kill as many dogs as he did, and not feel any sort of disgust in his own actions is beyond me. However, with that being said, prison would be a hypocritical sentence in our society, as there are far worse things in this world than killing dogs, and even those criminals won't go to jail as long as Vick will be going for. Is race an issue? Sure. But Vick needs help, and he needs to be admitted in a psych ward, for as long as it takes for him to get the treatment he needs.
He is a very immature person, as he admitted, but I don't believe Micheal is a bad guy. I don't know him, never met him, and never seen him at a club, but we need to stop acting like we as a society can't forgive him. He can and will be forgiven, with his reputation forever tarnished. But give me Vick and give me a child molester, and I'll tell you I'd rather watch Vick kill 1000 dogs, than even look in the face of a molester or pedophile. Nothing excuses Vick for what he did, he is a felon and a murderer, but isn't it remarkable how quick our society is to lock this guy up for an act which is committed by far more people than the majority of America would be willing to believe. Go to Newport News, and I'm sure you will find many, many people who have done more than watch dog fighting. If you are going to lock Vick up, lock everyone of them up as well. Don't just target the rich, target everyone! If this country truly is "the land of the free", it must start to act like it, as rich people too often are the target of the federal law. Leave people alone is what I say, if our country truly needs this type of stuff to unite it, then I must be that small minority that has a life....
